Stephen Hicks

Stephen Hicks, professor of philosophy and author of Explaining Postmodernism, explains Kant's role in reshaping art and thought. He traces how Kantian limits on knowledge and the sublime undermined representational craft and opened the way for modernism. Conversation covers Kantian aesthetics, the counter-Enlightenment, Munch’s subjectivity, and Aristotle as a classical alternative.

Stephen Hicks, philosopher and author of Explaining Postmodernism, returns as a critic of postmodern thought. He contrasts Enlightenment-derived modernism with postmodern skepticism. The conversation hits epistemic pluralism, power-knowledge dynamics, and whether modernity can self-correct amid environmental and cultural crises.
