Sir Ernst Hans Josef Gombrich

Austrian-born art historian, naturalised British citizen, and one of the field's greatest popularizers. He was the director of the Warburg Institute from 1959 to 1976 and held various academic appointments. Gombrich was known for making art accessible to a wide audience and was honored with numerous awards, including the Balzan Prize and the Goethe Prize.
