Rosemary Sutcliff was a British author known for her historical novels, particularly those for children. Born in 1920 in West Clandon, Surrey, she developed a talent for painting miniatures before turning to writing. Sutcliff is renowned for her works such as the Eagle of the Ninth series and won several literary awards, including the Carnegie Medal and the Phoenix Award. She was awarded an OBE and later a CBE for her services to children’s literature. She passed away in 1992 at the age of 71.
