Lucius Cassius Dio (Dio Cassius)

A Roman historian and senator of maternal Greek origin, born in Nicaea, Bithynia around 165 AD. He held various high offices, including governor and consul, and was a close friend of several emperors. Dio wrote his 'Roman History' over 22 years, covering approximately 1,000 years of Roman history.
