

Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve
French author and novelist, known for her influential fairy tales and novels. She was particularly noted for her original story of 'La Belle et la Bête', published in 1740. Villeneuve's work was influenced by Madame d'Aulnoy, Charles Perrault, and various précieuse writers. She supported herself by writing after being widowed and produced over 12 volumes during the latter half of her life.
