Anonymous (traditionally attributed to Matthew the Apostle)

The Gospel of Matthew is traditionally attributed to Matthew, a tax collector and one of Jesus' twelve apostles, but most modern scholars consider the author to be an anonymous Jewish Christian writing in Greek, likely in the late first century. The author was deeply familiar with Jewish scripture and tradition, and wrote for a community that valued both Jewish law and the teachings of Jesus.
