Abu Dawud Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath al-Azdi al-Sijistani

A Persian of Arab descent, born in Sistan (now Sistan, Iran) in 202 AH (817 AD) and died in Basra in 275 AH (888 AD). He was a renowned scholar of prophetic hadith and compiled one of the six canonical hadith collections recognized by Sunni Muslims. He traveled extensively to collect hadith from various scholars and was known for his meticulous approach to verifying the authenticity of hadith.
