For big picture overview and some helpful background information, we would recommend the chapter on 1-2 Kings in A Biblical-Theological Introduction to the Old Testament: The Gospel Promised. Peter Leithart’s commentary on 1-2 Kings in the Brazos Theological Commentary series is very insightful. For a more application driven book, we would highly recommend Dale Ralph Davis’ 1 Kings: From Wisdom to Folly.
