Deep dives
Cybertruck Updates and Expansion of Orders
Tesla has started expanding orders for the Cybertruck, with 172 orders already placed on the Cybertruck Owners Club order tracking sheet. Many of these orders are coming from states outside of California and Texas, indicating an expansion of customer reach. Tesla has now halted ordering for some customers who were invited to order, possibly due to a large number of orders already received. Additionally, there have been new details revealed about the Cybertruck, such as a 48-volt accessory connection for easy integration of accessories like a light bar, adjustments to delivery timeframe estimates, and insights from Lars and Franz on design choices and features.
Insights on Cybertruck Design and Manufacturing
Lars and Franz provided some interesting insights on the design and manufacturing process of the Cybertruck during their appearance on Jay Leno's garage. They highlighted features like a 48-volt accessory connection for easy integration of accessories like a light bar, the strength and repairability of the glass, the American-made aspect of the Cybertruck, and the towing and charging capabilities. They also mentioned ongoing development of wireless charging and shared that Tesla has close to 100 Tesla semi-trucks currently being tested internally, with volume production expected to start next year.
Vision Park Assist and Other Updates
The Vision Park Assist feature, introduced in the recent Tesla software update, has garnered positive feedback so far. It provides a 3D visualization of surroundings, enhancing parking functionality and awareness. While it may not be at feature parity with the ultrasonic sensor vehicles, it offers a different visualization approach that has been well-received. Other updates include Tesla compensating for the ending of electric vehicle credits in Germany until the end of this year, indicating potential increased demand in the market. Additionally, the LA sanitation department has added 22 Model 3s to its fleet, citing Tesla's efficient ordering process and quick delivery time as advantages over legacy automakers.
