Must wives obey their husbands in every aspect? Must wives submit to their husbands at all? Does Ephesians 5:22 and 1 Peter 3:1 teach that wives must submit to their own husbands or is there a great context that is often missed? It is important to look at the context. It is in the context of each passage that we see the truth of Scripture and it may not lead to where you think it will. Sometimes the common understanding of a passage of Scripture is not the clear meaning because some do not examine the context and see the greater context. The reality is that the two main passages used to teach wives submission to their own husbands have a greater context that is often ignored. The Scriptures teach that we are each to have submission to one another. Just as a wife is to submit to her own husband, so each husband is to submit to their wife.
