This week I had a luminary in the longevity and anti-aging medicine field to guest, Phil Micans is the editor of Aging Matters Magazine and Founder of IAS Group for Anti-Aging. He is an expert in many areas of longevity but todays main topic was Bioregulator Peptides, an incredibly exciting continuation to our series on Peptide therapies.
A bioregulator peptide is a short chain of amino acids that functions as a regulatory molecule in biological systems. These peptides are typically derived from natural sources, such as organs, tissues, or other biological substances, and they play a role in modulating various physiological processes in the body.
Bioregulator peptides are believed to work by selectively binding to specific target cells or receptors, triggering specific cellular responses and signaling pathways. They can act as messengers to regulate and optimize the functioning of various organs and systems.
I am super excited about these "Gene Switches" - signalling molecules that help our cells and organs "act" and "behave" in a younger fashion. Regulating our organs and their signaling molecules in a way that has hardly any side effects.
Bioregulators work by supporting and optimizing the body's natural regulatory processes, while pharmaceuticals are designed to specifically target and manipulate disease pathways which can be great but also can have many side effects.
In this interview with Phil we discuss the 21 types of Bioregulators and their research history which goes back to the cold war days in Russia, the KGB and the Kremlin through to today and the American Researchers who are diving further into the research. It's one hell of a story.
