Deep dives
The Power of Identity: Gideon's Call to Tear Down and Build
Gideon, an ordinary man in Israel during a time of survival mode, questioned God about the pain and suffering his people were experiencing. God convinced Gideon of his presence and called him a mighty man of valor. Gideon's identity was transformed as he surrendered to God and accepted his calling. God instructed Gideon to tear down the altars to idols in his heart and build an altar to Him. This transformation of identity enabled Gideon to become an agent of God's kingdom. Similarly, every believer is called to tear down the altars of false identity and build an altar to God within their hearts, allowing them to be agents of God's kingdom in every sphere of society.
Building Countercultures in Every Sector
The church has often built altars within subcultures, resulting in fantasy cultures or parallel cultures that do not engage with the world. However, believers are called to build countercultures in every sector of society, confronting the idols and strongholds of the world. God wants to transform believers into living altars, carrying the presence of God in their hearts and impacting every sphere of society. This requires boldness, intercession, and living out one's faith in every area of life. By doing so, believers can dismantle the altars of the enemy and build altars to God in every sector, bringing the light of the gospel to the world.
Transforming Hearts into Mobile Altars
Believers are called to surrender their hearts as altars to God, allowing the Holy Spirit to dwell within them. This transformation involves tearing down false altars and embracing a new identity in Christ. God equips believers to become walking, breathing, and living altars, carrying His presence wherever they go. Through encounters with God, prayer, and formation, the Holy Spirit empowers believers to impact various sectors of society: education, creativity, business, families, and more. By being countercultural, believers can reveal the glory of God in every sphere, bringing transformation and redemption to their communities.
Rising Up in Courage and Boldness
Believers are called to rise up in courage and boldness to confront the idols and strongholds of the culture. God is looking for willing individuals who are willing to surrender and become living altars for His glory. This requires breaking free from lies, traditions, and negative words spoken over one's life. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, believers can break free from the curses and limitations that have held them back. By surrendering to God's transformation, believers can become vessels of His power, love, and grace, impacting the world around them with the message of the Gospel.
Igniting the Flame of Love for God
The song 'Heart on Fire' serves as a prayer to ignite a passionate love for God in believers' hearts. Inspired by Psalm 86:11, the song asks God to give an undivided heart that fears His name. The lyrics reflect the desire to love Jesus more than anything and to have a heart fully devoted to Him. Through this song, believers can seek a deeper intimacy with God and invite Him to consume their hearts with His love, igniting a flame that burns with passion for Him.
This Sunday, guest Pastor Lee Cummings continued our teaching series, “God Comes Where He’s Wanted” by teaching on the importance of building altars through our lives. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, God allows His people to be living temples of the Holy Spirit, invites us to walk in holy confidence, and equips us to invade the darkness of our world with His glory.
