We had the pleasure of interviewing Mergui over Zoom video!

Emerging singer-songwriter Mergui, made his debut appearance on NBC’s TODAY Show on May 21st, to perform his single "Happy Now?". This track is the second single from his sophomore EP, Shadows of Blue, out now on Virgin Music/Saban Music Partners.

Produced by industry icons like the legendary David Foster(Madonna, Michael Jackson) and acclaimed singer-songwriter/producer K-KOV, Shadows of Blue presents a unique body of work that captures the myriad emotions of staying true to one's passion, despite the obstacles encountered. Mergui’s forthcoming EP delivers an intimate yet cinematic journey through the depths of human experience, drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as early 20th-century Italian opera and the nostalgic allure of '70s AM pop. Mergui skillfully intertwines these influences, infusing each piece with a contemporary twist that is both refreshing and compelling. The EP has already garnered attention across various Spotify playlists including New Pop Picks, Just Good Music, and Breakthrough Pop to name a few.

Mergui's talent has been gaining significant recognition lately. He was featured in in People’s Talented 2024 Spring Emerging Artists, where they described his music as akin to "Paradise." The latest issue of Music Connection proclaimed Mergui a "crooner sure to be a big hit," and further showered praise upon their review of the EP, describing it as a collection of "beautifully written songs that tug at the heart's strings." Atwood Magazine further commended Mergui, declaring him “a brilliant singer whose voice manages to deepen the pain of the situation that the lyrics evoke.”

Mergui truly stands out as an exceptional talent worthy of recognition! He is big overseas and comes from a musical family – his mom is a singer and his dad used to be a musician.

Los Angeles Magazine hailed his current single “Happy Now?” as a “melodic, soul-stirring excavation on romantic heartbreak.” Earlier this year, Mergui released the Elton John approved single “Cry,” which he captivated audiences with a spellbinding, stripped-back rendition of on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Following the performance, the track climbed the U.S. iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts peaking at #10! Atwood Magazine praised the track as "a moving piano/guitar number that’s sure to tug at plenty of heartstrings," and Rolling Stone featured it in their esteemed 'Songs You Need To Know' list alongside industry heavyweights like Beyoncé and Camila Cabello.

Mergui's journey is one marked by remarkable achievements, including opening for chart-toppers Bruno Mars and Maroon 5 to crowds of 65,000. His talent has been widely recognized by reputable publications such as Variety, Rolling Stone, and Billboard. Through his unguarded sense of vulnerability, Mergui emerges as an undeniable 'Artist To Watch' in 2024.
