Higher education is built on a traditional system that was developed by elite institutions. However, the model isn’t sustainable for educating a broader group of students.

Colleges and universities should look at their missions and their policies to see if these are still valid—and whether they may be holding the institution back in some ways.

Innovation doesn’t need to look the same across the institution’s campus. Different departments can focus on building innovative programs that meet the specific needs of a group of students. Through taking ownership of these programs, leadership gets built throughout the institution.
