The Ilston Letters | Particular Pilgrims
You may recall that a church in London sent John Myles and Thomas Proud back to Wales to preach, baptize, and plant churches. This Particular Baptist church was known as the Glasshouse Church. Their pastors at the time were William Consett and Edward Drapes. They were an early congregation of Particular Baptists in London and four of their pastors signed the 1651/52/53 editions of the First London Baptist Confession of faith. There are reasons to believe that this body had multiple Welsh connections, including leading members and even a pastor. So it may explain why they were not only instrumental in sending Myles and Proud back to Wales, but also wrote the Welsh churches frequently. There are eight letters recorded from them. Each is signed with a number of male names including pastors and others, perhaps deacons, other leading men, or those with a Welsh family connection.
