Democratic Leadership Challenges

Pressley, along with other newly elected representatives, such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Connor Lamb, is challenging the Democratic leadership’s approach to critical issues like impeachment and immigration policies. She believes there is already sufficient evidence to start impeachment proceedings against President Trump, as well as advocating for the defunding of ICE, contrary to the more cautious stance of party leaders. This divergence reflects a growing tension within the party, as many grassroots supporters prioritize bold actions over traditional political caution. As the Democrats prepare for 2018 elections, their base appears eager for a more aggressive agenda addressing systemic issues, which leaders may need to adapt to in order to maintain support.
