Deep dives
Gender ideology as a religion
Gender ideology shares similarities with a religion as it requires faith, has doctrines, dogma, and even its own form of iconography like pronoun pins. It demands belief even when it defies common sense and reality. Its followers adhere to it without questioning or examining its contradictions. Additionally, like a religion, it establishes a hierarchy, threats, and an ultimate endgame. The purpose of satire is to mock these religious-like elements in order to expose the absurdity and potential harm of gender ideology.
Breaking down the nuclear family
The ideology of gender seeks to deconstruct the nuclear family, which is considered a cornerstone of a healthy society. It aims to undermine the relationships between husbands and wives and separate children from their parents. By eradicating the family structure, adherence to gender ideology can disrupt traditional values and establish individual autonomy as the core moral compass. Satire is used to highlight the importance of preserving the biblical view of the nuclear family and to point out the inherent problems stemming from dismantling this foundational institution.
Subjective view of truth and power of language
Gender ideology aligns with a subjective view of truth in which individual feelings and personal experiences determine what is considered true. This ideology has weaponized language and seeks to redefine words and concepts to fit its narrative, often contradicting observable reality. By manipulating language and promoting subjective truth, gender ideology gains power over public discourse and attempts to shape societal norms. Satire challenges this view by exposing the incongruities and inherent dangers of subjectivity in relation to truth.
How should we think about what has come to be called “gender ideology?” How does gender ideology actually look a lot like a religion? What is the view of truth that underlies the gender ideology discussion? We’ll answer these questions and a lot more with our guest Joel Berry, co-author of The Babylon Bee Guide To Gender.
