Ep. 66: Breathing Equity Into Education with James Butler
Happy Day, Friend!
On this week’s podcast episode, I’m talking about mindfulness and equity in education.
When we think about mindfulness, we often think about images of calm and relaxation, but one of my many passions is the power of mindfulness to open up some of the darker spaces in our mind and heart, to breathe life into them, and to have healing conversations that inspire positive action around the issues of race, gender, and class.
My special guest, James Butler, M.Ed., is the Social Emotional Learning Mindfulness Specialist for Austin Independent School District and the Founder of Mindful Classrooms. He’s also the author of, Mindful Classrooms: 5 Minute Daily Practices to Support Social & Emotional Learning.
We talk about James’s journey into mindfulness practices, including bringing these practices to the classroom, white privilege, equity in education, and so much more!
