Dr. Stacy Shackelford: The development of the Joint Trauma System and improving care from point of injury through the spectrum of medical evacuation.

 Dr. Shackelford is an Air Force trauma surgeon and Chief of the Joint Trauma System.

She discusses the development of the Joint Trauma System and how we use the data from the battlefield to guide trauma surgery going forward.   She also discusses why she focuses much of her research on prehospital battlefield care, as many as 90% of the battlefield casualties occurred before they arrived at a hospital.
