Deep dives
Samsung's 256TB SSD with Low Energy Usage
Samsung teased the industry's first 256TB solid-state drive (SSD) at the Flash Memory Summit. The upcoming SSD uses 7 times less energy than combining 832 terabyte drives for the same storage level. Additionally, Samsung introduced the PBS SD architecture, a petabyte-scale ultra-high capacity solution that adjusts capacity based on context and requests public funding. Furthermore, the company unveiled the PCIe Gen 5 SSD with capacities of up to nearly 31 terabytes and a sequential read bandwidth of 16 gigabytes per second.
Intel and AMD Processor Vulnerabilities
Multiple new vulnerabilities named Inception, Downfall, and Zenbleed were identified in Intel and AMD processors. These vulnerabilities exploit the speculative execution feature present in modern CPUs and have medium severity. While physical access to the target PC is required, updating firmware with available patches can largely mitigate the risks. Downfall affects Intel's 6th to 11th gen CPUs, Zenbleed affects Ryzen 3000 to 5000 series processors, Threadripper 3000, and Epic Rome, and Inception impacts most Ryzen processors.
