290 - The Live Oak Lesson: Authenticity in the Age of AI with Craig Andrews

AI can make work faster, cheaper, and more efficient. But when leaders start handing AI the parts of the business that require trust, empathy, and human connection, efficiency turns into erosion. In this solo episode of Leaders & Legacies, Craig Andrews challenges the tempting belief that AI can replace the people responsible for customer service, sales, marketing, and storytelling.

Standing among centuries-old live oaks in Central Texas, Craig draws a sharp contrast between what grows naturally and what can be manufactured. AI can reproduce patterns, but it struggles to create the twists, turns, and authenticity that make human communication memorable. That distinction matters, especially for leaders who are under pressure to reduce costs and automate anything that looks repeatable.

Craig shares where he uses AI heavily in his own business, including autonomous agents that support his workflow. But he also explains the line he refuses to cross: using AI to own human connection. From frustrating AI customer service experiences with FedEx to the risk of AI-generated marketing that sounds like everyone else, he warns that companies may save money today while weakening the very skills they need to stand out tomorrow.

The message is not anti-AI. It is a call for better judgment. AI can augment strong teams, but it should not replace the humans who build trust, tell stories, and create meaningful connection. Leaders who understand that boundary will protect their differentiation while others slowly train themselves out of the skills that made them valuable.
