Nursing Considerations

• do not use with renal dysfunction, metabolic acidosis • may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, lactic acidosis • monitor patient closely for ketoacidosis and lactic acidosis, discontinue medication immediately if acidotic • may cause metallic taste • instruct patient that medication does not cure diabetes
