Menopause is described as the permanent cessation of menstruation, which generally begins between the ages of 45-55 unless it is induced medically via; cancer, hysterectomy, or other physical phenomena. Along with creating hormonal changes such as a decrease in estrogen and progesterone and a slight increase in testosterone which often can affect sexual desire and sensation, menopause can also carry with it emotional changes such as age- shame, grief over the loss of child birthing privilege, and a loss of sexual identity.
