Nate would recommend A Concise Guide to Reading the New Testament by David Nienhuis as a helpful resource on not just Mark, but the rest of the New Testament. Likewise, the single volume commentary by Eckhard Schnabel in the Tyndale New Testament Commentary series is a good first purchase for interested readers. More advanced readers will benefit from The Cross from a Distance: Atonement in Mark’s Gospel by Peter Bolt. It is part of the New Studies in Biblical Theology series that we would all recommend.
