Important note: During the Middle Ages, the Church grew in its influence. During the darkness of that time, there were many monks, nuns, and missionaries who were a light in the darkness, spreading the love of God in tangible ways. However, as is the case with all humans, power has a corrupting influence, and unfortunately, there were those Church leaders who allowed themselves to be drawn into that place. It is important to remember that regardless of its faults, the Church of the Middle Ages was a force for good and its influence helped shape entire cultures and civilizations throughout the world.
