Apollo Kiboloy initially gained prominence as a Pentecostal preacher in the Philippines, eventually establishing a multinational cult called the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. His rise was marked by a charismatic claim of being the 'appointed son of God,' which he used to attract followers and grow his influence. While disavowing other churches as fundamentally flawed, he built a parallel system where followers were encouraged to see themselves as part of a divine nation, free from the laws of their respective countries. This manipulation and control created an environment ripe for exploitation, leading to abuses within his organization.
