Beyond Survival: The New Teacher Podcast
How can teachers be more aware of their unconscious bias in the classroom?
The guest on this week's episode of 'Beyond Survival: the new teacher podcast' is Dr Heather Earnshaw. Heather is my wonderful colleague at Edinburgh Napier University, where she leads the Physics PGDE. She also has a huge amount of experience in working with schools and organisations in tacking inequalities, and lead Education Scotland's Improving Gender Balance and Equalities programme.
In today's episode we answer the question: How can teachers be more aware of their unconscious bias in the classroom? In answering that central question, we also explore the following:
1. What is unconscious bias?
2. How can unconscious bias influence what happens in the classroom?
3. What are some practical ways teachers can address their unconscious bias in the classroom?
4. How can teachers encourage their students to reflect on their unconscious bias?
I hope you really enjoy the episode, if you do I would really appreciate if you would take the time to pass on the episode to anyone who you feel would benefit from it. If you have the time to leave a quick rating or review, that is also always hugely appreciated in spreading the word.
