More Choices, Not More Leads: Annie Stern on Smarter Legal Marketing #464

You built the reputation and the referrals came, but the clients you want are finding you differently now. The way a potential client checks you out before they ever call has shifted, and most lawyers haven't caught up. This episode is about what actually works today, and what's coming next.

Gary talks with legal marketing strategist Annie Stern about how AI has changed the way clients find and vet lawyers. Drawing on twenty years in the field and data across more than six hundred law firm sites, Annie explains why Google rankings no longer tell the whole story, how AI is becoming a trusted referral source, and why the smartest firms are chasing better clients rather than more leads. It's a practical look at marketing as a path to freedom, not just a bigger caseload.Takeaways

• Rethink your goal from more leads to better filtered ones, so the inquiries you get match the cases you actually want.
• Invest now in how AI describes your firm, because trust, not keyword ranking, is what these tools reward.
• Feed accurate information everywhere, not just your website, since AI pulls from reviews, Reddit threads, and hiring portals too.
• Publish deeper knowledge about how you practice so AI can pre qualify prospects before they ever reach you.
• Treat your practice like a business and delegate the work that doesn't need your expertise or your control.
• Start marketing early rather than waiting, the way one attorney with no network did before turning away business within months.

Annie Stern works exclusively with law firms and has spent two decades watching legal marketing reinvent itself. Her vantage point across more than six hundred firms lets her spot trends and opportunities individual practices miss, which makes her a clear-eyed guide to the AI shift attorneys are living through right now.If this conversation gave you something to think about, subscribe and leave a review so more lawyers can find the show.
