Kim was born and raised in the vibrant and free-spirited Amsterdam. After years of studying at a musical and dance school as a child she decided to follow up with a professional education at the then called Jazz- Musical Dance Bachelor in Amsterdam. After two years, she decided to narrow the focus and continue her studies at the Modern Theatre Dance Department at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, from which she graduated in 2016. Ever since graduating she's been working with choreographers such as Emio Greco, Kris Verdonck, Arno Schuitemaker, Anne Teresa de Keersmaker, Alexander Vantournhout and Damien Jalet. Her personal practice is formed by her time on stage and is shaped by the teachings of Emio Greco, Liatt Waysbort, Martin Kilvady and the ongoing research with the Ferus Animi // Terra Nova collective of which she is member. As a freelancer she gets to enjoy the space to collaborate with artists, movement artists and movement practitioners. This allows her to hand pick her surroundings and have it be the inspirational pool that gets to inform her movement and life practice.
In this conversation Kim discusses the observations she's made by being forced to stay in one place during Covid. She talks about her passion for practicing outdoors and with people, and her recent studies with Martin Kilvady. She shares her approach to placing intention when she practices, researches, or rehearsal. And, she talks about witnessing those willing to try, fail, and try again, and her admiration for the mindset.
