Peter's Confession: Jesus as the Anointed One

Peter's confession of Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God, was not just a sudden revelation but the flowering of a seed planted by his brother. The term 'Christ' or 'Messiah' refers to the anointed one. In the Old Testament, individuals and objects were anointed with oil to symbolize their dedication to God's purpose. However, these anointed ones pointed beyond themselves to the ultimate anointed one who was yet to come - Jesus. This understanding gradually deepened Peter's knowledge and love for Jesus.
