Overview of Salt Typhoon Campaign

Salt Typhoon represents a significant Chinese espionage campaign targeting U.S. telecommunications providers, compromising at least eight major firms over the past year and affecting numerous countries. The campaign has successfully stolen metadata regarding calls and text messages of ordinary Americans, along with sensitive communications from high-ranking officials. It became widely recognized in late September when the depth of the breaches was revealed, including vulnerabilities in systems used for government wiretapping requests. As investigations progressed, it was disclosed that real-time access to calls and SMS text messages had been achieved, marking it as one of the most serious telecommunications hacks in U.S. history.
