Deep dives
Trials and suffering as opportunities for growth
Trials and difficulties should be seen as opportunities for personal development and growth. Just as a crucible purges impurities and creates a new product, going through challenges can facilitate growth and the development of important attributes. It is important to shift our perspective from focusing on the pain and struggle towards what we can become as a result. God does not cause our suffering, but He can use it for our benefit and help us become more like Him. The Savior, through His own suffering, understands and can empathize with our trials, providing us with the support and guidance we need to overcome them. By seeing our challenges as opportunities for growth and looking for ways to learn and improve from them, we can transform our difficulties into stepping stones towards becoming better individuals.
Becoming vs. Doing
Paul's writings in 2 Corinthians highlight the importance of becoming rather than just doing. Our focus should be on becoming more like Heavenly Parents and Jesus Christ, rather than just checking off a list of actions or behaviors. The process of becoming requires effort, practice, and a willingness to learn and change. It is through our actions and choices that we become what God desires us to be. By aligning our will with God's will and striving to live as He lives, we can experience true growth and progress in our spiritual journey. Understanding this concept of becoming helps us approach our trials and challenges with a long-term perspective, knowing that they can contribute to our growth and development as children of God.
God's Role in Trials
God does not cause our pain and suffering, but He allows us to go through trials as a necessary part of our mortal experience. He sees the potential for growth and development in our struggles and can use them for our good. Just as a loving parent allows their child to face challenges in order to learn and grow, God allows us to go through difficulties to help us become stronger and more resilient. He is always there to support and comfort us, offering healing and guidance in our times of need. Understanding that God is with us in our trials and that He can turn them into opportunities for growth can bring comfort, hope, and strength as we navigate the challenges of life.
The Power of Perspective
Perspective plays a crucial role in how we approach and navigate trials. Shifting our focus from the immediate pain and struggle towards the potential for growth and becoming can change our entire outlook. Rather than being consumed by the difficulties we face, we can choose to see them as stepping stones towards developing important attributes like patience, resilience, forgiveness, and empathy. Trials can serve as crucibles, purging impurities and helping us become better individuals. By embracing a perspective of growth and recognizing the potential for positive change, we can find purpose and meaning in our challenges and approach them with faith, hope, and perseverance.
