Jen Wilkin, JT English, and Kyle Worley continue their series within Genesis 1-11 focusing specifically on the first days of creation.

Questions Covered in This Episode:

  • Original audience for Genesis?
  • What questions do we tend to ask that the text is not trying to answer?
  • What is happening with the rhythms in the creation account?
  • Is this framework intentional?
  • What would you say to someone who says “this is just a plain reading of the text”?
  • What are some patterns we see in the creation account?
  • On day 4 God creates heavenly bodies, why is this significant?
  • Genesis 2:1-3 - What’s different about the 7th day?

Helpful Definitions:

  • Pentateuch: The first five books of the Bible; Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
  • Cosmology: The science of the origin and development of the universe.
  • Polemic: Argument.
  • Naturalism: The idea that the world is closed and purley material and has no external spiritual or supernatural forces operating in it or within it or around it.
  • Framework Theory: The theory that God forms and creates kingdoms on days 1, 2, and 3 and then on days 4, 5, and 6 he fills those kingdoms and he does so in a corresponding way. Days 1 and 4 correspond, days 2 and 5 correspond, and days 3 and 6 correspond.
