Episode 25: with Maik Schwarz on establishing risk management structures in radically complex environments (from Afghanistan to South Sudan)
Today we are joined by Maik Schwarz. Maik grew up in Somalia at the end of the 1980s and has since worked in all kinds of complex and volatile environments. He served two tours of duty in Afghanistan with the Germany military and in 2007 he transitioned to the development sector and stayed in Afghanistan as a Risk Management Advisor for five more years. He played a key role in creating security and risk management structures and procedures across Afghanistan before moving to Yemen, Libya, Somalia, and then the Caucasus region. In 2014 he was tasked to set up a regional risk management structure in Eastern Africa, covering ten countries. Today, Maik is employed as a Country Director for a German organization in South Sudan.
On today's podcast, Maik discuss the challenges of establishing risk management structures in times of radical uncertainty and what it means to experiment and execute, and how to create your organization's future.
