Ursulaan, a young and playful spirit child, frolics and cavorts with their siblings in the presence of the mighty Great Bear. They engage in a wild chase, tackling and wrestling each other, displaying their joy and exuberance in the spirit realm.
While running and playing, Ursulaan stumbles upon a mossy hill and decides to ascend it. Once at the top, they witness something entirely new and unknown to them—a road. Intrigued by this discovery, Ursulaan is drawn to explore this unfamiliar sight and get closer to the armored knights moving along the road.
As Ursulaan approaches the road, they notice a mushroom falling from their hands and rolling back down the hill. Curiosity leads them to investigate further, and they come across a natural archway formed by ivy-covered trees—a door. Sensing a hint of danger in the air, Ursulaan picks up the mushroom and decides to venture through the door, leaving behind their snack and bracing themselves for an encounter with the unknown.
Amé enjoys her favorite breakfast, prepared by Grandma Ren. The breakfast is a rice porridge called jook, made with a broth and slow-cooked porridge. It is served in a large bowl with a floral design. Grandma Ren is described as short and wide, with her hair neatly tied up in a bun. She always wears a stained apron, with the colors changing based on the season.
While tending to the animals, Amé notices the arrival of a carriage with four chestnut horses. Strangely, there is no driver. The carriage features paintings depicting fancy people drinking wine. Amé informs Grandma Ren about the arrival, who instructs her to make the guests welcome and stable the horses after they are settled. Amé becomes curious about the creaking sounds and wants to explore the wagon at the back of the carriage.
Snow falling, over endless white sand...So begins the prelude to our first story, The Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One. In this prologue, we meet our characters as children, and see them thrust from the known into peril, confusion, and new worlds they will struggle to understand. This is the first chapter in the story of how our trio met, and the events that would bring them back together so many years later.
