He became a symbol of opposition to the Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro regimes, advocating for political change and transparency, which led to his imprisonment on charges of inciting violence during anti-government protests in 2014. Despite being locked away in solitary confinement, Leopoldo’s passion for his country never wavered and he continues to be a voice for freedom.
