Deep dives
Evacuation of Alshifa Hospital
Israel ordered the evacuation of Alshifa Hospital, Gaza's largest hospital, before its soldiers took over completely. Around 7,000 people, including premature babies, injured patients, and displaced families, were inside the hospital. Evacuees were forced to walk in a single file, carrying injured infants, sick children, and wounded elderly individuals. Despite efforts to maintain the premature babies' body temperatures, one of them died and the Israeli forces refused to let others leave. The evacuees, including wheelchair-bound and bedridden individuals, were relocated to southern Gaza.
Targeting of Refugee Camps and Schools
In addition to Alshifa Hospital, Israeli airstrikes targeted refugee camps in northern Gaza and the occupied West Bank. A school in the Jabali refugee camp, which was being used as a shelter, was bombed. Many of those killed had already been displaced once due to the attacks. Israeli forces also conducted airstrikes and ground incursions into the Belatah refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, causing panic and chaos. The increased use of airstrikes and drones in these areas has raised concerns among Palestinians and the international community.
