The Three Essential Pillars for Trauma Healing
The podcast explores the three essential pillars for trauma healing: biology, thoughts and beliefs, and the body. These pillars are crucial for achieving regulation and creating a biology of safety. The biology aspect focuses on understanding how trauma affects our bodies and addresses specific health conditions related to adverse childhood experiences. Thoughts and beliefs refer to the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves, and the podcast emphasizes the importance of gently challenging and working with these narratives. The body, on a tissue level, holds implicit memory and plays a significant role in regulating the nervous system. The episode emphasizes the importance of a bottom-up approach, where the body is prioritized and how shifting the body's state can change thoughts and beliefs.
The Importance of Somatic Work
The podcast highlights the significance of somatic work as a foundational piece in trauma healing. It shares personal experiences of how somatic work helped the host and patients achieve stability and regulation. Somatic work acts as a stabilizing factor for the nervous system and creates a container of safety. The episode describes a 21-day journey with daily somatic exercises, allowing participants to observe and regulate their nervous systems. The exercises enable individuals to slow down, challenge perfectionism, and feel more grounded and peaceful. The podcast emphasizes that somatic work opens up capacity for other trauma healing modalities, including biology and parts work.
Addressing the Biology of Trauma
The podcast discusses the significance of addressing the biology of trauma in the healing process. It acknowledges that solely focusing on biology may not lead to complete transformation and relief from trauma symptoms. However, it considers biology an essential piece of the holistic approach. The episode explores the impact of micronutrient deficiencies, inflammation, and chronic health conditions related to trauma. It emphasizes the need to shift the biology from a trauma response to a state of safety. The podcast invites listeners to reflect on their experiences with different medical approaches and how addressing biology is a critical aspect of trauma healing.
The Interplay between the Three Essential Pillars
The podcast emphasizes the interplay between the three essential pillars: biology, thoughts and beliefs, and the body. It highlights how working on one pillar can open up capacity for the others. The episode discusses the role of stability and regulation in trauma healing, emphasizing the importance of creating a biology of safety. It shares personal stories from individuals who participated in the 21-day somatic journey, where they experienced emotional breakthroughs and improvements in physical health symptoms. The podcast encourages a cycle that builds on itself, generating more regulation, wholeness, and a biology of safety.
“Once we know better and have the ability to be intentional about the process, either for ourselves or our clients, it has to be a holistic integrative approach and to start the opening up in a specific way.” We have talked a lot on this podcast about different ways to work on our stored trauma in the body, but the number one question is - Where do we start? Having been through my own personal journey of healing my body by addressing and releasing trauma, I learned the hard way that my body will let me know when what I’m doing isn’t helpful. It shows itself through relapses in fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, and heaviness. So through all of the different modalities to heal trauma and heal the body, How can we start healing in a holistic way, and not just attacking symptoms?
