Her fight is also personal. Over 20 years ago, Mary’s young son experienced a severe adverse reaction that led to a diagnosis of autism. As a lawyer and an advocate, she made it her mission to investigate how such harm could occur without accountability. What she discovered was a system designed to shield those responsible from liability. The pharmaceutical industry, doctors, and government agencies operate under legal protections that remove their incentive to ensure safety or to admit when harm has occurred.
