The margin for error in this method is similar to BMI. How? If you're either extremely fit or frail it is going to be off. For me it was off by 5%. I have more muscle than most and less fat.
(Knowing numbers is important, however, if you have a Smart Scale consistently showing change, you have all you need. I will say, for me this was not within the 3-5% of accuracy range you hope is true for a body composition test, compared to 2-3% range with 2 other calibrated measures consistently).
If you do use this method to PRE-test, then use the same method (same time of day and same hydration and exercise status) to POST-test.
