The Right Kind of Ambition
Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is a picture of humanity the way God designed it to be. Jesus begins this message with a portrait of eight inner attitudes that portray the attitudes that reign in our hearts when he sets us free from slavery to sin. This message explains the meaning of the fourth beatitude, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. The ambition that is to preoccupy Christ-followers is conforming our lives in every way to God’s moral law, not to get God to love us more but because he already loves us unconditionally. That hunger and thirst for rightness is to spill over to the world around us, where we must devote ourselves to opposing wrong treatment towards all human beings since they are made in the image of God
