Why Meditation Won’t Heal Your Pain with Matthew Zoltan (part 1) | EP 311
Have you tried meditating many times before now? If you’re like me then you’ve done a lot of meditating and it didn’t really do much. It may bring temporary relief but generally speaking, it doesn’t change or heal your painful experiences or emotions. That might be a controversial statement and maybe your experience has been different , either way I’d invite you to listen to this episode and it’s the most logical view that I’ve ever seen on healing emotional pain and trauma that guys far beyond talk therapy and spirituality. Even if it’s not you, I think hearing these ideas will add to your perspective in a really useful way.
In this episode we chat about:
- How old meditation traditions keep you stuck in your problems
- Why spirituality causes you to detach from reality
- Narcissism is a big problem in spirituality
- Why thinking during meditation is damaging to healing
- If we are a mental-spiritual being then we’ve got an overthinking problem
- You are not a bad person for being negatively affected by your reality
- Religion helps me accept life now - which is a fear of the present moment
- We’re not inadequate we’re born whole - you’re not here to improve or transform
- You don’t even know yourself until you experience yourself how you really are
- The most damaged person has been through something hurtful
- When you mentally react it causes more emotional pain
- Hurt people hurt people because the damage inside us has not been resolved - that's why we feel unable to manage ourselves
- Why it’s hard to grow up and act like an adult
- How sexual trauma can lead to really hard relationships both emotionally and intimately
