We pick up the story of Obadiah Holmes in Newport, Rhode Island where he had moved his family in early 1651. He attended the small Particular Baptist church there which was led by one of Newport’s founders, a medical doctor and the pastor, John Clarke. The congregation knew of a blind and elderly Baptist brother, (he was 67 years old), who lived in Lynn, Massachusetts. His name was William Witter and he may have been a member of the church. But regardless, the church desired to minister to him.
