The Destruction in Khartoum

Sudan has experienced overwhelming destruction due to a prolonged civil war, primarily between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The military recently recaptured the capital, Khartoum, which has left the city in ruins with significant damage to governmental buildings, crucial infrastructure, and a large number of civilian casualties, estimated to be around 150,000. Although the victory is celebrated by some, the reality of the devastation highlights the humanitarian crisis that many residents continue to face, including widespread displacement and trauma. The celebration of Eid among the soldiers signifies a victory, but it comes with the acknowledgment of the high cost of the conflict and the uncertain future for a civilian government in the nation.
