Clemson didn't just lose its season opener at Duke. The Tigers got destroyed. The Blue Devils, who won nine games in Mike Elko's first season as coach, didn't play the perfect game, but quarterback Riley Leonard and company made plays when they mattered and capitalized on a host of Clemson mistakes.

Clemson hasn't made the College Football Playoff since 2020. While the Tigers did regain control of the ACC title last year, they allowed South Carolina to break a long losing streak in the rivalry and got shelled by Notre Dame.
