Jen Wilkin, JT English, and Kyle Worley are joined by Dr. Jonathan Pennington as they discuss the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7 and answer the question, “is Jesus a philosopher?”
Questions Covered in This Episode:
- The Sermon on the Mount has got to be one of the most familiar passages in the New Testament, why should we take a fresh look at this heavily explored passage?
- A typical reading of the beatitudes is “blessed,” but could it be more accurate to translate this as “flourishing.” Why is that?
- What is the Sermon the Mount about? What are the key contexts of this section of scripture?
- So, should I view the Sermon the Mount as a list of do’s and don'ts?
- What is virtue ethics and why is it helpful in understanding the sermon on the mount?
- For someone who wants to dig deeper into the Sermon on the Mount, what next steps would you encourage?
