Ep. 550: How to Bring Sexual Chemistry Back Into Your Relationship

What happens when you love your partner, have a strong relationship, and genuinely enjoy your life together—but the sexual chemistry just isn’t there anymore?

Losing desire doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve fallen out of love. Sometimes, what’s missing is polarity—the energetic charge created when two people are connected without becoming so blended that there’s no longer any space, mystery, or tension between them.

In this candid conversation, JJ Flizanes and Doug Sandler are joined by sex and relationship expert Dr. Jane Guyn to explore what creates sexual polarity, why it can disappear in long-term relationships, and what couples can do to begin bringing attraction, desire, and playfulness back.

Dr. Jane explains that when couples become completely merged—doing everything together, knowing everything about each other, and functioning almost as one unit—it can become difficult to experience the separation necessary for erotic charge. Creating healthy physical and emotional space can actually help couples rediscover each other.

JJ and Doug also share openly about their own relationship and the changes they’ve experienced by becoming more conscious of masculine and feminine energy, creating space for individuality, communicating more clearly about what they want, and allowing intimacy to become playful rather than something that has to be performed correctly.

In This Episode, You’ll Hear About:

• What sexual polarity actually means and why it matters
• Why loving someone and desiring someone aren't always the same thing
• How becoming too merged with your partner can diminish attraction
• Why having your own interests, experiences, and space can create more mystery and sexual charge
• Masculine and feminine energy—and why polarity isn't simply about gender
• Why high-achieving women who spend much of their lives leading, deciding, organizing, and getting things done may have difficulty shifting into receiving
• How men can step more confidently into initiation without women having to make themselves smaller
• The importance of communicating what you actually want instead of expecting your partner to figure it out
• How performance anxiety, shame, and fear of doing something “wrong” can cause partners to avoid intimacy altogether
• Why safety, trust, patience, and curiosity create room for sexual exploration
• How playfulness can help take sex out of the realm of pressure and performance
• Why bringing the spark back isn't necessarily about having more sex—it's about creating a different dynamic between you

One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation is that a partner who appears to want less sex may not necessarily want less sex—they may want less of the sex that's currently being offered. That opens an entirely different conversation about desire, communication, pleasure, and what each person actually needs.

Sexual chemistry doesn't have to disappear simply because you've been together for years. Sometimes the people capable of creating an entirely new level of intimacy are already there—you just have to create the safety, space, communication, and polarity that allow those parts of you to come forward.
