TW: eating disorders, diet culture, fatphobia, body dysmorphia, trauma, depression, sexual assault, abusive relationships
This week I share my personal eating disorder journey. This episode will be the last of the trio of ED episodes. I talk about this in the episode, but this episode was especially challenging for me to record. Unlike my other “journey” episodes, this is a journey that is more active in my life than past traumas, so being vulnerable about it in real-time was a lot for me.
I want to include the disclaimer that my story is my story. I am not a ED therapist or an expert, I am simply sharing my personal journey. I would highly recommend listening to Episode 20 with @thrive_withmeg, or Episode 22 with @diet_dont_work_haes, for the perspective of an ED therapist and someone who has struggled with eating disorders for 50+ years.
If you are struggling with an eating disorder and feel that you are not worth seeking help or are not sick enough to seek help, please know that you are worthy of help and recovery and your feelings and struggles are valid. You can seek help at the NEDA hotline (800) 931-2237 / https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org . You can also search for an ED therapist online at psychologytoday.com & inclusivetherapists.com .
