The Glory Problem
Humans are naturally glory-seeking beings, constantly pursuing their own desires and seeking personal satisfaction. This pursuit of glory often leads to a distorted perspective and a lack of understanding of the true meaning of life. Our hearts are prone to prioritize the created world and its fleeting pleasures over the glory of God. This glory problem stems from the disobedience of Adam and Eve, who chose the creation over the Creator. Living for shadow glories instead of God's glory never brings true satisfaction or inner peace.
The Shattered Shalom
The shalom, or peace, that comes from a right relationship with God is essential for finding peace within ourselves and living in harmony with others. However, when our peace with God is shattered due to our disobedience, our hearts become restless and burdened with anxiety, anger, and frustration. We inevitably experience brokenness in our relationships, leading to conflict and strife. Our hearts long for rest, but we cannot find it until we restore the peace with God that was lost. Only through radical heart change and the grace of God can we experience true peace within ourselves and with others.
The Mission and Price of the Messiah
The mission of Jesus as the Messiah goes far beyond political, educational, or religious purposes. He came to address the core problem of our hearts and provide a solution for our glory and peace dilemmas. He offers us new hearts capable of living for the glory of God, breaking the bondage to our own desires. Jesus' death on the cross was the ultimate price paid to reconcile us to God and restore the peace that was shattered. Through His grace, we can find peace with God, experience inner peace, and live in harmony with others. This grace, bought by His sacrifice, offers us a hope that cannot be found in the pursuit of temporary glories.
It was the most important event to ever occur, accompanied by the most important song ever sung, containing the most important announcement ever made - "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased." In today’s episode, we’re going to hear another sermon of Paul’s from the archives. In it, Paul opens Luke 2:14 to evaluate the announcement of the birth of Jesus Christ.
