Robert Anton Wilson hit on some cynical truths when he pointed out that human beings live in their myths and endure their realities. There are moments when the sense of family relationships being as brittle as that glass teetering at the edge of the kids' table is what happens when the hope for holiday cheer transforms into holiday stress. Whoever says magic isn’t real is engaging in sleight of hand. We learn of Christmas magic through our great myths and stories, whether they are religious or in television and film. Even if the stories may be fiction, what they teach is real.
